We are back again with a frequently asked question that I would love to address in detail:

 

‘Can Kombucha help me lose weight’

 

The simple answer is YES …… and NO. 🙂

Losing weight can be a challenge. And many are in search of quick and effective ways to go about that. That’s the whole premise of fad diets. As we know, these diets aren’t sustainable and they just do not work. 

 

It’s absolutely okay to want to work on your body, and work to love and improve the skin you’re in. I am of the view that good things take time, and ‘everything worth doing, is worth doing well’. So if you desire to lose weight, do it well.

 

One of the benefits of Kombucha that garners a lot of attention is weight loss. It’s not as simple as ‘drink kombucha today, lose weight tomorrow!’ So, I want us to break down exactly how Kombucha can help you lose weight.

One of the main ways that Kombucha could help with weight loss is through its probiotic content. We all know this by now:  Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can help improve digestive/gut health and boost the immune system. 

 

Studies have suggested that certain strains of probiotics including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium (found in Kombucha and Kefir), could potentially aid in weight loss. These strains in Kombucha can contribute to weight loss and help reduce belly fat by reducing inflammation( eg. bloating), increasing satiety (keep you feeling full for a longer period of time), and improving metabolism (a burst of energy that enables you to burn calories).

 

Another way that Kombucha could help with weight loss is through its acetic acid content. Acetic acid in Kombucha is a type of organic acid that is produced during the fermentation process. Some studies have suggested that acetic acid can help with weight loss by reducing appetite and increasing fat burning.

I do, however, have to highlight this important fact that, Kombucha is not a magic weight loss solution. Although studies are revealing the weight loss benefits of Kombucha, it is NOT a substitute for a healthy diet and regular body movement/exercise. You will notice results when you incorporate probiotics into a healthy diet/lifestyle.

 

Additionally, it is important to choose a reputable brand of Kombucha that has been properly fermented and stored to ensure that the probiotics and acetic acid are still active.
